Description of Fuerteventura
fuerteventura hotels

FUERTEVENTURA: They say you can tell the locals from the way they shout to be heard across their empty island, second largest but least densely populated of the Canaries. This is a real desert island: an almost treeless landscape of thirsty scrub and stone.

No large or bustling resorts - just quiet restaurants and bars close to a turquoise ocean, miles of sweeping white sandy beaches and some of the best windsurfing in the world.

To the north is Corralejo, where ferries run to neighbouring Lanzarote (an easy day trip). It has a good choice of restaurants facing the harbour and a superb beach - more Saharan cast-off and mostly within the National Park of the Dunes.

Midway down the east coast is Caleta de Fuste, with a fine curving beach tipped by an ancient castle and picturesque marina.

To the south - the remote and spectacular Jandia peninsular with the developing resort of Morro Jable.
